Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Early "King Crimson", "Van der Graaf Generator", Frank Zappa... those are the names that come to my mind while listening to this bizarre and extraordinary album. I've found it in Alan Benjamin's collection, which is one of my primary sources of inspiration on Bandcamp. "Grüvis Malt" called it quits after this release, and the band members pursued various other music projects, which are quite interesting as well. Favorite track: The American Trilogy: Scene 2 - Joe Returns from the Front.

Brian Callahan One of my favorite albums of all time! Totally shattered what I thought this band was capable of. If you're looking to be inspired, buy this and all previous albums and keep on repeat!!!
"Music should evolve" and Gruvis Malt did just that.

Arghhhh one blink of an eye is all you get when the starting gun fires tires smoke like a dangerous guy Baby's chest rested firmly on my thigh but you think you drive best with a patent-leather sweatervest?! It's no use to fight The Blaze, Bobby... The Greasefire drives the women wild! The Senators' Sons wanna call me crazy 'cause my drive style is my crash style, BOBBY!! "DEAD MAN'S DROP!" Activate the SECRET TIRES! I walk like a vampire 'cause I AM a vampire, Booooobbbbbyy!! [As the two came within yards of Deadman's Drop, Bobby cut the wheel and spun his blue car around until he was facing the rest of The Senators' Sons, who's excitement was now transformed into terror. He turned back just in time to see his girl, Baby, screaming over the side of Deadman's Drop with Jimmy Blaze in his blood-red Blade Razoredster! The teenagers rushed to the cliff's edge to view the carnage, only to see Jimmy Blaze—eyes of white flames and mouth full of fangs—had not crashed but was now piloting his Maximum Unicorn upwards with Baby at his side, returning to "the night" as he had sworn to do several times during lunch period.]

about

This album is a major departure for Grüvis Malt in many ways. Compositionally, this is the sound of a band giving up. Whereas before every note and inspiration was debated over and eventually abandoned/altered, now anything was acceptable... the more fleeting or amusing the better.
This is probably the closest Grüvis Malt has ever come to honesty. It is a theme album to the fullest (the most "Maximum" you might say), and lends itself to the widest interpretation of any of GM's work. Though one of the shortest GM releases to date, Maximum Unicorn traverses the widest musical terrain.
